SHEET MUSIC

Bourree: Bach, Lute Suite BWV 996 in E minor

Study notes: The partial first measure is called a pickup measure.  It is not included in the measure count, i.e. it is measure "0".

The notes with stems pointing up are the melody.  These should be played more loudly than the bass or accompaniment notes below.  This is accomplished by right-hand fingers that push the string inward towards the sound hole before releasing it.

Rest stroke can be used for some melody notes, but this can become awkward in certain sections of the piece.  (When playing rest stroke, a right-hand finger plucks a note and rests on the adjacent string.)

When performing the repeat, play it differently in terms of volume and tone compared to the first pass.

Handel Aria from Rinaldo
